Plastic, a sustainable packaging material

Ever since our inception, we at Alpagro Packaging have been striving with full conviction for a better environment and a better climate. Despite plastic often being seen as a controversial material due to the negative environmental impact associated with disposable plastic and litter, we believe in plastic as an essential and sustainable packaging material. It is crucial, however, that the material is used and managed responsibly.

Why plastic?

  • Compared to other materials such as paper, cotton or jute, carrier bags or packaging made of plastic are significantly lighter in weight yet strong, which means less material and energy is consumed in production. Also, plastic is a compact material which means it takes up little space in storage and requires fewer trucks for transportation. The sum of all this results in lower energy and fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions.

  • In addition, plastic can be recycled countless times, decimating the carbon footprint for the benefit of the climate while reducing waste and litter. We achieve additional climate gains by using plastics made from vegetable oils, which makes the raw material quasi CO2-neutral.

  • Plastic packaging is also water-resistant, promotes hygiene of the product and extends the shelf life of food products, reducing food waste.

Responsible use & management

In order to reap the benefits of plastic while reducing its negative impact on the environment, we strive to create a world where plastic is used responsibly and sustainably.

Our commitment is to market carrier bags and packaging made from sustainable materials with a focus on reuse, recycling, circularity and the use of natural and renewable raw materials.

At Alpagro Packaging, we promote the reuse of plastic carrier bags and packaging and encourage our customers to make conscious choices that contribute to a circular economy. We aim to reduce disposable plastic and replace it with sustainable alternatives.

Circular together

Reduce, re-use, recycle

To reduce disposable plastic and encourage recycling, all our products are made from sturdy materials. Their longer life cycle not only benefits the environment, but also repeatedly highlights your name, brand or identity.

In addition, all our materials are recyclable, keeping the resources used in the cycle for as long as possible. We work with partners to improve plastic recycling infrastructure and are committed to making recycling easier and more efficient. By focusing on recycling and circularity, we contribute to reducing waste and the use of new raw materials.

Belgium in the lead

Belgium has been fully committed to waste prevention and recycling in recent years and can proudly call itself the European leader in this field. Thanks to a well-developed system of selective PMD collection and sophisticated triage and recycling techniques, plastic scores very high in the end-of-life phase, both domestically and in our neighbouring countries.

Our range of
sustainable material types

We offer high-quality carrier bags and packaging made from sustainable materials. Besides conventional polyethylene, we also process recycled and renewable polyethylene and 100% compostable material based on corn starch. With these alternative raw materials, we try to reduce our ecological footprint and minimise the environmental impact of our products.

We regularly test new materials and continue to innovate on recyclable and eco-friendly solutions. As long as we contribute to a sustainable future together with you.
